Advanced Mechanics: Elevating Your Gameplay

If you've read the Beginners Guide, you know how to throw a punch and call an assist. Now it's time to learn the advanced mechanics that separate the casual players from the tournament champions in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls.

1. Advancing Guard (Pushblock)

In a game with so many projectiles, assists, and crazy pressure, standard blocking isn't enough. You will eventually get pushed into the corner and chipped out.

Enter the Advancing Guard.

  • How to do it: While in blockstun (actively blocking an opponent's attack), press any two attack buttons simultaneously.
  • What it does: Your character will flash white and literally push the opponent (or their projectiles) away from you, creating breathing room.
  • When to use it: Use it to get rushdown characters like Blade or Wolverine out of your face, or to safely escape a long, multi-hit beam attack from Iron Man.

2. Snapbacks

Are you fighting an opponent whose Magik has 90% red health, but they tagged her out to heal? Don't let them get away with it!

  • How to do it: Quarter-Circle Forward + Assist 1 or Assist 2 (Costs 1 Energy Level).
  • What it does: You perform a specialized heavy strike. If it hits, it forces the opponent's current character off the screen and forcefully drags in the character associated with the Assist button you pressed.
  • Why it's crucial:
    1. It permanently deletes all of the incoming character's regeneratable "Red Health".
    2. It locks the opponent out of calling assists for several seconds.
    3. It allows you to assassinate a low-health character who is hiding on the bench.

3. Delayed Hyper Combos (DHC)

The ultimate expression of team synergy in MARVEL Tōkon is the DHC.

  • How to do it: While your Point character is performing their Ultimate Ability, input the Ultimate Ability command for the next character on your team.
  • What it does: Your next character will instantly tag in and execute their Ultimate Ability right as the first one finishes, chaining them together for massive damage.
  • Advanced Tip: You can DHC up to three times (using all 4 characters) if you have the Energy for it. Finding Ultimates that combo perfectly into each other (e.g., locking them down with Doctor Doom's Latverian Legion and following up with Spider-Man's Maximum Spider) is key to building a top-tier team.

4. The X-Factor / "Tōkon Awakening"

When you are down to your very last character, you gain access to Tōkon Awakening.

  • How to do it: Press Light + Medium + Heavy + Special simultaneously.
  • What it does: Your character glows with an aura. For a limited time, you gain:
    • Massive damage boost.
    • Massive speed boost.
    • Immunity to chip damage.
  • The Catch: You can only use it once per match. Use it to mount an impossible 1v4 comeback!

Mastering these four mechanics takes time, but they are absolutely essential for surviving high-level ranked play. Head to the lab and practice your Snapback timings!
